The vision in our pets equals expression, joy, mobility, playfulness and a thousand other things. Therefore the loss of vision, will always be a disturbing event for the pet, its owner and the family.
Loss of vision may present itself as a slow process or manifest itself from one moment to the next; if the vision is slowly lost, the pet will adapt as the problem progresses in an almost imperceptible way to those around it. Eventually, the pet’s lack of displacement and inactivity will make it apparent.
When the vision is suddenly lost, pet owners will notice confusion and uneasiness in their pet as it collides with walls, furniture or objects in general. Pets who suffer sudden vision loss tend to manifest fear or aggressiveness.
Depending on the cause for the loss of vision, pet owners may notice a strong reflex to the back of the eye as evidenced by very dilated pupils and retina with loss of their normal characteristics.
