A type of corneal ulcer known by several names, such as: torpid ulcer, detached edge ulcer, boxer ulcer, recurrent ulcer, etc., those names stem precisely from the difficulty these ulcers present in healing. Months may pass, even under intense medical treatment, without achieving a solution.
These ulcers are generally superficial because they tend to only affect the outer layer of the cornea and are not very painful; however, as the days go by, they can get wider and could cover the whole area of the eye.
Both in the tear as well as inside and outside the cells that form this layer, there are substances that promote their adhesion to the immediate basal layer, however the lack of these substances, are the cause of this condition.
Surgical treatment is recommended in order to achieve healing of the ulcer in a shorter period of time.
